Der als Spritzenvorsatzfilter oder auch Spritzenfilter bezeichnete Filter wird auf eine Spritze aufgesetzt und dient der Filtration von Flüssigkeiten, um Verunreinigungen zurückzuhalten, bevor diese injiziert oder in einen anderen Behälter umgefüllt werden.Die Porengrößen der Filter sind so abgestimmt, dass sie unterschiedliche Partikelgrößen ausfiltern können.
Die Funktionsweise und Anwendung von Spritzenvorsatzfiltern werden im Folgenden dargelegt.Spritzenvorsatzfilter, auch als Spritzenfilter (englisch: syringe filters) bezeichnet, sind kleine, runde Filter in einem Kunststoffgehäuse, welches auf eine Spritze aufgesetzt wird. Sie dienen dazu, feine Partikel oder Verunreinigungen aus einer Flüssigkeit zurückzuhalten, bevor diese injiziert oder in einen anderen Behälter gefüllt wird.
In wissenschaftlichen, medizinischen und industriellen Anwendungen finden sie weite Verbreitung, um eine spezifische Partikelgröße bei Proben zu erhalten und um die Sterilität einer Flüssigkeit zu gewährleisten. Die Filter sind daher mit unterschiedlichen Porengrößen erhältlich.Die Auswahl des geeigneten Spritzenfilters hängt von der Art der Flüssigkeit (wässrige oder organische Lösungen, Chemikalien) und den Anforderungen der spezifischen Anwendung ab. Bei einem hohen Feststoffanteil empfiehlt sich der Einsatz eines Spritzenfilters mit Vorfilter, der gröbere Partikel zurückhält und so das Verstopfen der feinen Filtermembran verhindert.
Die Porengrößen liegen von 0,1 µm bis 5 µm auf. In der Praxis finden vornehmlich Porengrößen von 0,2 µm und 0,45 µm Anwendung. Die Probenmengen, die mit den Spritzenvorsatzfiltern verarbeitet werden können, liegen bei ca. 1 ml bis ca. 200 ml. Die hydrophoben oder hydrophilen Membranen weisen einen Durchmesser von 3 mm bis 33 mm auf.Die Filter sind in sterilen oder unsterilen Varianten erhältlich und zum Teil autoklavierbar.
Der Spritzenvorsatzfilter mit regenierter Cellulose (RC) ist mit einer hydrophilen Membran ausgestattet und wurde speziell zur Reinigung von HPLC-Proben sowie zur Filtration von wässrigen und organischen Lösungsmitteln entwickelt. Der Spritzenfilter Polyvinylidenfluorid (PVDF) dient der Klärfiltration von Lösungen mit hoher Partikelbelastung vor der instrumentellen Analyse. Er ist mit einem graduierten Glasfaser-Vorfilter ausgestattet, wodurch die Durchsatzmenge im Vergleich zu Spritzenfiltern ohne Vorfilter um das Zwei- bis Vierfache erhöht wird. Das Gehäuse besteht aus HDPE mit geringem Anteil an extrahierbaren Substanzen. Die hydrophile Glasfaser-Vorfilter weist eine sehr geringe Proteinbindung auf.
Die Filtereinheiten mit PTFE Membran sind spezifisch für die Probenvorbereitung in der Ionenchromatographie konzipiert .
Die Variante PVDF (Polyvinylidenfluorid) ist zur Filtration von Proteinlösungen, Gewebekulturmedien, Zusätzen, Antibiotika und alkoholischen Lösungen geeignet. Die Variante Polyethersulfon (PES) dient zur ultraschnellen Filtration von Gewebekulturmedien, -zusätzen und anderen wässrigen Lösungen.
Der Spritzenfilter Celluloseacetat (CA) ist mit einer hydrophilen Membran ausgestattet, die eine sehr geringe Proteinadsorption aufweist. Diese Membran eignet sich insbesondere für die Verwendung mit biologischen Proben, wie beispielsweise Enzymlösungen und biologische Makromoleküle. Darüber hinaus ist der Filter auch für die Klar- und Sterilfiltration wässriger Lösungen geeignet.
