Order magnetic stirrers online at the häberle Labortechnik shop
At häberle, you can find magnetic stirrers from leading manufacturers such as Heidolph, Velp, IKA, and LLG. We also carry devices from 2mag, Phoenix Instrument, and Thermo. Our range includes magnetic stirrers with and without heating options, with heating plates available in stainless steel, glass ceramic, or induction variants.
High-quality magnetic stirrers for all applications
Magnetic stirrers are used in chemical laboratories to ensure uniform stirring and mixing of liquids and solutions. Depending on the application, you can choose between single-position or multi-position magnetic stirrers with adjustable stirring speeds. Even liquids in closed containers can be effectively mixed using a magnetic stirrer.
Operation and applications of magnetic stirrers
In addition to stirring liquids, magnetic stirrers are also used for mixing. They are particularly valuable in sample preparation and in the dosing process for food and water analysis. Here’s how a magnetic stirrer operates:
A beaker or flask containing the liquid is placed on a plate, which may be heated. A magnetic stirring bar, coated with glass or plastic, is added to the liquid. Below the plate, a magnet rotates at an adjustable speed, causing the stir bar to rotate and thereby mixing the sample. Temperature control ensures uniform heating of the vessel contents.
Magnetic stirrers with heating
When a magnetic stirrer includes an integrated, controllable heating element, it is referred to as a heating magnetic stirrer. The heating plates of these devices are typically made of glass ceramic or stainless steel, suitable for containers of various sizes and types, such as beakers or Erlenmeyer flasks. Heating is regulated through the integrated heating system.
Difference between magnetic stirrers and Bunsen burners
Compared to heating individual samples with a Bunsen burner, magnetic stirrers with heating plates offer advantages such as achieving a consistently regulated temperature for samples. They also allow for safe handling of flammable liquids and solvents, which is not entirely safe with an open flame.
Advantages of magnetic stirrers
Underneath the heating plate, a magnet rotates at a precisely controlled speed. Inside the vessel on the heating plate, a rod-shaped magnet, known as a magnetic stirring bar or stir bar, also rotates, mixing the liquid. Stir bars, often coated with PTFE, are inert and do not react with the solutions they stir. After use, stir bars can be easily removed from the mixing vessel for cleaning.
Heating duration with magnetic stirrers
Magnetic stirrers with integrated heating not only ensure uniform heating but also effective mixing of liquids, reducing the risk of boiling over. In contrast, heating liquids over an open flame, especially with larger quantities and longer heating durations, requires more precise temperature control.
Stir bars and stir bar removers
At häberle, we offer a wide range of stir bars and magnetic stirring bars suitable for all types of magnetic stirrers, along with stir bar removers in various sizes. Stir bars come in different dimensions and shapes, including triangular magnetic stirring bars, cylindrical stirring bars, egg-shaped stirring bars, and middle-ring stirring bars. We also provide high-quality laboratory stirring bars from leading manufacturers, all available in one place. If you need assistance selecting the right stir bar or stir bar remover, please feel free to contact us.
Application of magnetic stirring bars
Magnetic stirring bars, also known as magnetic fish or stir fish, are essential components of magnetic stirrers. They are commonly used in conjunction with heating magnetic stirrers, which you can also find in our product range. The stir fish is attracted and held in place by the stirrer's magnetic field at the bottom of the flask. This ensures the stir fish remains stationary within the flask, facilitating the re-solution of deposits. Depending on the specific requirements, various sizes and types of stir fish are available. After use, stir fish can be easily removed from the flask and cleaned using a stir fish remover.
