Depending on the model and supplier, you can purchase a wide range of rotary evaporator parts and accessories from us, including various coolers, flasks, vacuum pumps, controllers, software, protective covers, different holders, heating bath fluids, and many other components offered in our inventory for rotary evaporators.
Structure of a Rotary Evaporator A rotary evaporator consists of a heating bath, a rotating flask for the evaporating flask, a cooler with a vacuum attachment, and a receiving flask. The height of the entire setup is adjustable, and the speed of the evaporating flask is continuously adjustable. Essentially, it functions as a distillation unit, except that the evaporating flask can be rotated around its longitudinal axis. The heat required for distillation is provided by a heating bath, typically filled with water, or less commonly, with oil to achieve higher operating temperatures. It is also possible to evacuate the device (usually with a separate pump that is not part of the actual rotary evaporator), a pump that reduces the internal pressure. (With many of our customers, the rotary evaporator is used in conjunction with a vacuum pump.)
Uses of a Rotary Evaporator A rotary evaporator is used in chemical laboratories to concentrate solutions and evaporate solvents. The so-called distillation (concentration) on a rotary evaporator is a largely standardized process in any chemical laboratory. Use a fully automatic rotary evaporator now. Rotary evaporators are also evolving towards automation. Depending on the design, all parameters such as temperature, pressure, speed, and test duration can usually be entered directly on the device or via a laptop or PC connected via a USB port. The substance to be distilled evaporates at a specific temperature and pressure, separating the solvent from the substances contained therein.
Function and Use of Our Rotary Evaporators By heating the evaporating flask in a heating bath, the distillate (usually the solvent) evaporates, and the vapor flows into the cooler. There it can condense on the cooling surface and flow into the receiving flask. The boiling points of substances are not separated simultaneously, i.e., at a specific temperature, some substances evaporate, others do not yet have the same boiling point, the separation of the substances will fail in is that. By applying a vacuum to the equipment, the boiling point temperature can be lowered, which means that high-boiling solvents can evaporate at lower temperatures than atmospheric pressure. This is important when the substances contained in the solvent that are to be separated during the process are temperature sensitive. Working at a lower boiling point prevents decomposition. Our rotary evaporators are not suitable for every substance mixture, the boiling point temperatures are too close to each other, our devices do not provide the separation of the substances. An example serves us, of Ethanol and Methanol.
