Cleaning & Sterilization
Cleaning is the basis of every successful disinfection. Cleaning agents are used to dissolve the surfaces of non-polar and polar dirt particles and thus rinse them thoroughly. Depending on the application, alkaline, acidic or neutral cleaners are used. Automatic cleaning and disinfection machines are used especially for laboratory glassware.
In the case of ultrasonic baths, the use of cleaning agents is obligatory. If oils and greases are to be cleaned from contaminated surfaces, demulsifying cleaners are recommended.
Sterilization is a safe process that virtually kills or inactivates microorganisms that are capable of reproduction, thereby creating an approximate sterility. This is usually achieved by thermal sterilization equipment such as hot air sterilizers and steam sterilizers - also called autoclaves. Depending on the application, UV light, microfilters and gases may also be used.
Due to space limitations, steam sterilization can be used either in floor-standing autoclaves for vertical loads or in table-top autoclaves for horizontal loads. Regulations in handling exhaust air in certain areas are ensured by suitable filtration units.
